The Arlo Pro 5S 2K Spotlight Camera impresses with its high-resolution video, advanced motion detection, color night vision, and smart home integration, making it a robust security solution. However, its high bandwidth usage, shorter battery life, reliance on a strong internet connection, and potential ongoing costs for cloud storage may be drawbacks for some users. As long as you can follow along with the video in the app, installation is a breeze! Although it can be tricky if you aren’t tech savvy and handy with tools. Overall the performance is A1, especially the zoom in on the license plates, but the battery life isn’t what I’d hoped. & mine does lag a tiny bit. But I do recommend!

Difficult to set up
I’ve owned and set up a couple dozen Nest Cams and other WiFi cameras. All have been great and easy to set up and use. I thought I would give Arlo a try since it seems to be well regarded among all the new battery powered options. I gave up on the Arlo after 3 hrs of trying. I did not want a separate ‘base station’ as that seemed like old technology and a hassle. So I chose the 5S which supposedly doesn’t require a base station. I discovered that, in order to get through set up, you need to have a wifi system that broadcasts in an inferior 2.4 Ghz signal. Majority of new (last 10 years ?!) Wifi access points are 5 Ghz. So I had to figure out how to go into my wifi settings and dumb-down the system and temporarily turn off 5 Ghz. Fine. Did that. I went through set up and only 2 of the 3 cameras were discovered / connected to the account after *multiple* tries. I tried all the pairing tricks for the 3rd. Never connected. On the first 2 cameras only one made it through the firmware update. 2nd one failed. Wasn’t able to get far enough to see quality or operability. Nest cams can be set up in minutes… This was a waste of time. Returning.

I have the pro 3 purchased from Costco a few years ago, cameras work well, needed a little update for the front yard, this camera works well and the 2K resolution has sufficient detail.Again Good Wireless Camera, about 40′ of reasonable signal through walls. 50+ feet (direct line of sight).

Purchased Arlo door bell and older model eccential camera . Models all have major issues picking up movement in custom zones set up by your own settings. The 5s camera when power levels drop to 10% Constantly triggering text message alerts very far outside of your custom set up zones . In turn degrading battery life to three days even when hooked up to Arlo optional solar panel that is in a sunny area most of the day. BTW solar panel charging plugs are different types between both camera . Have to purchase different ones. One is magnetic other is micro usb . Also found night vision much better in the lower cost older eccential camera. The 5 s is much newer and 2 megapixel but performance much lower than the older eccential model. Called customer support tech but seem to be perplexed as to why and did not offer any answers so far . The paid subscription AI picking up cars driving down the street and interpreting them as animal movement in alerts . They still have a long way to go with software issues .
