Customers say
Customers find the electronic deadbolt easy to install and appreciate its modern design, sturdiness, and good battery life. The lock functionality receives mixed feedback – while the locking mechanism is great, some customers report it stopped working completely. The bolt turnability is also a concern, with multiple customers noting it doesn’t have a motor-driven mechanism.

Works quiet, and batteries last
This replaced the Kwikset Halo I bought a year ago as it was eating batteries and was really noisy. The Kwikset also jammed a lot when the door wasn’t closed all the way. This one is a lot simpler because it doesn’t actually move the deadbolt, but rather when you enter the code correctly it lets you turn the deadbolt open. Until you put the code in it’s disengaged and just spins. That does three things, one is that its silent because there’s no motor, just a solenoid that engages the deadbolt. The second thing it that since there’s no motor, the battery lasts over a year (I know because I had another Schlage BE365 a couple years ago). Lastly, the third thing is since you’re turning the deadbolt with the knob and its not a motor moving it, it doesn’t jam, or if you do try to lock it with the door partly open you’ll know right away like a manual lock. It has no wifi or Internet connection, but then with the Kwikset I didn’t really use it much and I don’t miss it. One trick, if you want to use the physical key, you need to push the lock inwards with the key about 1/4 inch before turning it. Just putting the key in and turning it does nothing. Speaking of the keys, I wish they sent you two. There’s only one, but I guess you only need it if the battery dies.

Heavy duty
I like the look of this lock. Just had the door painted and wanted new hardware and thinks this looks beautiful. I took a star away because it was only a little challenge to get it right with the installation and to figure out the nuance of operation. It feels much sturdier than my previous key lock, and I wanted the combination to make entry easier in the dark or with my hands full of dog leash. The value for seems appropriate to the cost.

No one tells you to PUSH the key in While you turn it.
Schlage instructions are incomplete for operating and their support sucks! Instructions for installation are okay but using the lock is not easy or intuitive. Also, reprogramming code is long and hard to entire before time runs out.

It just works
I purchased this deadbolt to replace a smart lock that just wasn’t cutting it. I was looking for one that has a decent battery life, and one that would let me and my family get in and out quickly without unnecessary hassle. This is the perfect lock for that need. The genius is all in the locking mechanism. Because this lock only needs to engage and disengage a mechanism which you then turn by hand, it is so much faster to operate and has a much improved battery life.I highly recommend this lock.

What I wanted
My daughter has had this on her door for a long time and it is so easy to go in of her house without having to use a key!! I was tired of not having a key on my keychain for my door but still needed to lock it so after 23 years of living in the same house, I finally bought this and it is amazing!! It’s perfect for what I wanted and it was easily installed.

Couple of dislikes
Just installed the first of two I bought. Install issue # 1: the exterior face plate will NOT sit flush on a metal door: a google search revels Schlage’s answer to this is basically “It’s fine. Don’t worry about a little gap.” There are three little metal triangular thingy’s and two little metal ‘tits’ for lack of a better word that will bite into a wooden door but will result in a 1/8″ gap on a metal door – my solution was a curved metal-cutting multi-tool blade and saw all that shit off. Fixed. Programming Issue # 1 – the programming code and the USER CODE A (used to test install) are on a little yellow sticker on the INSTALLATION GUIDE. Seriously? Dear Schlage, the INSTALLATION GUIDE is typically the first thing lost or thrown away by DIY’ers. Absolutely ridiculous. Not that big of a deal for me as I am a manual reader and saver, but you get my point. Function issue # 1 – to use from the outside you have to input the code then manually turn the…key turner thingy to lock and unlock the door. My other electronic deadbolt – a Kwikset – you just input the code and the deadbolt locks / unlocks. Aesthetic issue # 1 – the interior cover is just a big honky hunk of ugly metal. Looks like an after thought by Bruno the designer. Other than that, we shall see how it goes!

Works Well and Easy to Install
This is very easy to install and works well. I wish I never called a locksmith to work on it since I could have installed it myself it turned out. It basically fits any door that had a deadbolt it it or any door that had a similar security device in it. Nice modern design too.

game changer works perfectly and the fact that you do the work turning the dead bolt means you get excellent battery life here. Dont fall for the complicated locks that have a motor that throws the deadbolt. you will be constantly changing the battery ive been there. I have bought 2 and several other for my contractor who puts them in all his projects ( I buy them as he is terrible on the computer) amazon price is half the cost of the local locksmith crazy but true

We have had these installed for a few months now and they are so easy to use and easy to lock. They look great on the door, are easy to program, easy to install, and they are very sturdy. I would definitely buy these again if I ever need to

Perfect. Easy to install and provides you with a simple deadlock that is 1) easy to install and 2) easy to setup. Please ignore the bad comments complaining about the fact that the deadbolt does not automatically unlock by itself. THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF THIS DEADBOLT! You actually have to turn the deadbolt manually after you punch in the code, lowering the risk of the mechanism/motor from breaking. Once you input the code, you’ll hear a beep, then a “click” to indicate that you may now unlock the door by turning the deadbolt. When you’re locking it, as soon as you punch in the code and the “schlage” button turns green, this is your turn to turn the deadbolt to lock the door, then you’ll hear a “click” to indicate that the door is now locked. Not sure what’s so difficult to understand. If the code isnt punched in, the thing in the middle will turn, but it won’t turn the deadbolt. By the way, you’ll need a 2 1/8″ borehole in your door to be able to install this, so if the hole in your door is 1.5″, you’ll need to widen it. Just get a door install kit and a drill, and you can easily do it yourself.

Beautiful lock, wrong colour, and missing hardware, may have been used.

Attractive lock with the solid, high quality build and materials we’ve come to expect from Schlage. However we’ve only had it installed for a little over a week, and are having to return it after being locked out/forced to use the key at least 5 times on 3 separate days. Very disappointing. The mechanism seems to be rendered unusable on on cold days (ranging from -20 to -30 C). Our front door is fully enclosed inside a thick glass patio which insulates the entryway from outdoor elements and cold. On a -25 day the enclosure tends to be about 10 degrees warmer, which tells me this lock can only handle temperatures in the low negatives (maybe 0 to -10 or so). Possibly would be a good pick for service stairs in your basement leading to the garage, or garage entry from your laundry room. But I’d hesitate to recommend this for an entry door, especially for Canadian winters.I’m still very loyal to Schlage and think they make dependable products in general – in fact I own several sense/connect/encodes which perform like beasts all year around. But this particular lock is only a entry-level product in comparison to the above smart locks – so really, you get what you pay for. As such, I highly suggest buying in the wintertime in order to gauge its suitability for your home. You don’t want to have a lock that only works from spring to fall!
