…for about 2-3 days, before resuming his status as a mindless, drooling, TV-watching zombie. Oh well, I tried. Good product though. Maybe it will end up in the hands of a more deserving yewt some day.

This is actually pretty nice.
Back in the day, I had a 160 in 1 electronics project kit from Radio Shack where you would make connections with tinned wires and the spring connections. Using the snaps is a little more difficult, but it’s also more durable. I’ve been using this to teach my 9 y/o nephew about electricity and electronics. I show him the voltages at different points in the circuits using my meter. So far, he’s been having a blast. One thing that is notably missing from the project list is a radio. Besides that, this is a decent product.

These were a gift for our 8 year old son who is into science kits. He absolutely lives this set! The instructions and projects are easy to follow, and within a day he was creating his own projects. For comparison, I thought this 200 in 1 kit was fairly comparable to a 30 in 1 kit I had when I was a kid…a lot of the projects are minor variations or uses of the same circuit, so it is not really 200 different circuits they get to build. I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t include an antenna or any projects for radio-type projects, and I thought it was a bit heavy in the use of the “space wars” IC, but overall, it’s a great into kit for young kids to learn about electronics.

Blew my son’s mind. He just turned 6 and needed a little guidance with the cover build, but has since been able to do the other builds without guidance. He loves building recording devices most of all. Lots of awesome ideas in one box. I’ll be buying more sets for sure! As durable as necessary. Downside: kids who just want to grab and build something on their own might wind up building their own custom short circuit. Take time to read the ‘don’ts’ section.
