Stunning Picture, Thoughtful Design and Powerful Features
I’ve had the Sony 55″ OLED BRAVIA XR8B for a little while now, and I have to say, it really changes how you watch TV. First impression: the screen is gorgeous. The OLED panel delivers blacks that are truly deep, and colors feel vivid without ever looking oversaturated. Watching HDR content with Dolby Vision is a treat; the detail in shadows and highlights is noticeable even in a well lit room, and every scene feels dynamic and alive.Setting it up takes a little planning, mainly because this is not a lightweight TV. It’s medium-heavy, so having two people lift it safely is a must. The included stand legs are well designed, offering two height positions that can either sit near the edges or closer to the center. This makes it flexible depending on your furniture setup. If you prefer a wall mount, the TV comes ready with the screws and mounting points, which is convenient.Connectivity is excellent. There are four HDMI ports, all supporting 4K. Two of them are standard 4K ports, and the other two handle 4K at 120Hz, perfect for gaming on a PS5 or high refresh setups. It’s nice not having to juggle cables or compromises depending on what device you’re using. The ports are easy to reach, and the cable management feels thoughtful. The software side is smooth as well. It runs Google TV by default, which makes discovering apps and content simple and intuitive. I also appreciated that you don’t have to sign into Google TV immediately you can use it with a limited set of default apps if you prefer a more minimal setup. Switching between apps and inputs feels snappy, and navigation is responsive, which is always a pleasant surprise for a smart TV.One of the standout features for me was how easy it was to connect to over the air TV. I set it up with digital channels, and it picked up 55 channels without any fuss. The clarity and color accuracy on broadcast TV were noticeably better than my old LED set. Even in bright rooms, the picture remains crisp, and the contrast is excellent, which makes regular TV feel upgraded.Sound wise, it’s also solid. The speakers are built into the TV, and for most regular viewing, they deliver clear dialogue and decent depth. While I’d still pair it with a soundbar for movie nights or gaming, it’s good to know you don’t absolutely need external speakers for casual watching. Dialogue is easy to understand, and action scenes feel immersive enough without distortion.Overall, this Sony BRAVIA XR8B hits the sweet spot between size, performance, and thoughtful engineering. From picture quality to connectivity, from design flexibility to user-friendly software, it handles everything I’ve thrown at it from digital TV to streaming, and even PS5 gaming. It’s the kind of TV that immediately makes your living room feel like a cinema, and it’s definitely worth the effort to set it up properly.

Free permanent advertisements with no option to remove them!
Listen I wanna give this TV five stars it looks great has amazing color and works even in full daylight with the sun shining right on it, I cannot. I’m giving this four stars because it continuously ceaselessly advertises for things that Google sells offering me purchases of streaming services they provide like YouTube and movies purchased from the Google store. Searching online tells me clearly that this is not a thing that I can remove, and it simply doesn’t work as well without the ads that come with the voice command functions etcetera. The built in microphone is by default turned off which is great, but unfortunately it consumes significantly more electricity when it is on, and many of the commands leave something to be desired. For example on volume control the examples say set the volume to 3, but when using any kind of sound bar it will only decrease the volume by a single pip instead of to your desired volume level. Additionally the TV does not interact well with Bluetooth speakers (my samsung new high end one connected but no settings or resets ever produced any volume), nor did it play nice with optical input speakers, and can really only interact via HDMI with a speaker system, and still in a way that leaves much to be desired. The remote is not programmable, so you’ll need TWO remotes if you have a soundbar. That said, the sound from the television is pretty good, just not good enough if you are used to anything better or want to subwoofer. If you’re willing to put up with the quirkiness of HDMI out controlling your audio, the visuals are quite good, but are far from high end. It operates on an Android system and actually found applications I hadn’t used in a decade using the Google ecosystem which was kind of fun, but it can’t actually use most of those programs, since it isn’t a touch screen. This is a solid four stars, largely because there is NO WAY to skip ads (even on app only version), the remote is tiny and black (which is insane because everyone loses their remote), and it has the prime real estate buttons on the remote as”Sony Pictures Core” (everyone’s favorite streaming service?YouTube (thanks, Google, which owns it)and Crunchryroll (fairly niche, but owned by Sony)Yes it also has netflix disney and amazon, but these are the buttons that are a bit less easy to press, and I hate when design is done by a guy who has to drive attention to a specific media outlet instead of someone who cares what your experience is like. The sony pictures app comes preloaded and the TV comes with access to “classic” movies or something, but in four minutes of looking I could not find ANYTHING except an amazon prime show in that app that was free. What a baffling design choice. The higher end versions come WITH several free downloads from this service which ABSOLUTELY should have happened here too. Even with 5 free new movies, I’m not sure building in another app would make it worth putting on my homescreen, but as it stands I am relegating it to the furthest reaches of what can be clicked.Final concern before I throw on four stars anyway, is that the HDMI ports and power cable are on opposite sides of the TV, so you WILL have cables coming out both ends. The power cable plugs in at the tv’s midpoint, it is very short, and there is NO groove for it to strap down or tuck in, so it will dangle across the back of the TV wherever you have the outlet. This is just terrible design.I moved from a samsung with a OneConnect cable that was gorgeous on the wall and made everything tidy. This is messy by design.I will probably end up getting a high end firestick and just ignoring all the Hey Google junk, if I can get the stick to activate both the TV and soundbar, since the TV has only one dedicated eArc HDMI port. FIngers crossed.

    Next-Level TV Experience—A Stunning Upgrade
You don’t realize how subpar your old TV was until you experience one of these. This Sony OLED makes it clear just how far television technology has come. From the moment it arrived, everything felt premium. It was packaged with extreme care, with very specific unboxing instructions (follow them—they’re there for a reason). Setup was straightforward: about 30 minutes to connect Wi-Fi, apps, and external devices. Even though we wall-mounted ours, the included legs are heavy-duty metal and sturdier than expected. The picture is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s bright, crisp, and so sharp it almost feels three-dimensional. What really impressed me is how good it looks in everyday conditions—I attached a quick video clip filmed during daylight with windows open, and even then the screen looks vivid and immersive. Streaming is seamless too—no freezing, no lag, no dropped connections, which was a problem with our previous set.The sound matches the picture in quality—full, rich, and theater-like, even without external speakers. Add in Dolby Vision HDR, multiple HDMI ports, Ethernet, and all the built-in smart features, and it’s truly an all-in-one entertainment hub. This TV is a major upgrade in every sense. If you’re on the fence, know that the difference is dramatic and immediate. Absolutely worth it—highly recommend.

The blacks and whites are perfection
This picture is unparalleled. I was always a Samsung fan but this new Sony is superior in every way. I paired it with a Marantz preamp and a 8 channel amplifier. I’m listening to 8 Martin Logan speakers and the sound is simple amazing. I can’t rave enough about this incredible piece of technology.
